I was at the gym the other day, and when I went to leave, my car wouldn’t start. I turned the key, and…nothing. It didn’t even make that clicking noise a car makes when the battery goes dead. No lights came on. No radio. Nothing.
I turned the key again. Still nothing. Fantastic. I was going to hop out of the car, so I turned the key the other way to take it out of the ignition…and it was stuck. Normally when something like that happens, you can jiggle the steering wheel, and it will unlock the key and allow you to pull it out. Not this time. Everything abo
ut my car was locked up. Absolutely nothing worked.
I called my husband to come pick me up, and I texted my friend, Erin, who was inside the gym. She came out and tried to get the key out, but it wouldn’t budge for her either. I decided to open the hood–as if I would actually recognize if there was a problem with the engine. Of course, everything looked normal to me.
We tried for a good twenty minutes to get the darn key out. Finally, I got frustrated and slammed the hood shut. The windshield wipers went crazy, and all the lights came back on. We got the key out of the ignition just as my husband pulled up. We got the car home, parked it in the garage, and started it several more times. It seems to be working fine now.
I texted Erin later and told her the car was fine. She said maybe it was the work of my guardian angel, keeping me in the parking lot because I would have gotten into a wreck if I’d left at that time. I suppose that’s possible. And it got me thinking about my next book that will be releasing in February.
The Rest of Forever is about guardian angels, specifically Damian, whose sole job for the past thirty years has been to keep April, his Charge, safe. Being a Guardian, Damian has the ability to cross over to the Earthly Realm and physically interact with the humans he protects. Most angels (in this book) can’t do that. They can only whisper to their Charges and guide them in the right direction.
Could my guardian angel have the ability to make my car stop working? Why not? I find it comforting to think there might be an other-worldly being out there looking after me.
